Vocabulary: Level A (3rd ed.) introduces seventh graders to etymology as a means of determining the meanings of words. Students study Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes to learn recognition of word families. Students also study synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms as well as positive and negative context clues to determine word meaning.
Vocabulary: Level B continues to build vocabulary and focuses on the study of Latin word parts presenting new words in word families that share a prefix, root, or suffix. The worktext provides many reinforcement exercises to help students retain vocabulary words.
Vocabulary: Level C Student Worktext (3rd ed.) concludes the special emphasis on Latin word parts, discusses the difference between denotative and connotative meaning, and expands the discovery of word meaning through context. Each lesson provides word games, puzzles, and reinforcement activities to help students build and retain vocabulary.
Vocabulary: Level D Student Text (3rd ed.) teaches Greek word parts and discusses the contribution of Greek to modern English vocabulary. The educational materials emphasizes the importance of proper word selection for effective writing and seeks to expand students’ vocabulary.
Vocabulary: Level E (3rd ed.) introduces some of the ways English acquires words such as allusions, coining, back-formation, folk etymology, and borrowing words from other languages.
Vocabulary: Level F Student Text (3rd ed.) explores the way word meanings change over time and introduces more borrowed vocabulary originating from other languages. Students will practice determining word meaning from context and knowledge of common word roots.
